Belt It Out
For the girl on the go, this hip low-slung waist belt bag will never  be mistaken for your  uncle’s fanny pack. There’s been a revival of this accessory that’s been rockin’ the runways the past few seasons, and this little number by Tory Burch is among the latest turnouts. This Robinson waist pack is American sportswear at its finest.  Made of durable saffiano leather waist belt bag composes a haute little bag that perfectly fit a phone or a compact, credit card and lisptick which is finished with logo details on its magnetic front flap and pouch threads on the back, and a slim adjustable-length with polished hardware.  And Bonus! While these two chic pieces come beautifully boxed as one unit, the belt can be worn alone and the bag carried by hand – making it a 3-in-1  – now that’s a hard working accessory. The Robinson is available in navy, black, white, pink, and my pic, silver metallic leather.

To the Letter
Wearable art. This sums up all creations Mary Katrantzou, and she follows her signature style to the letter (literally) with the Perspex clutch. This debut collection features the not surprising letter choice shown below with remaining characters of the alphabet expected to be released in coming seasons. Katrantzou’s signature style is all about illusion – perception and perspective, and channeling that visual expression into wearable Objets de Art. These pieces are more than something to carry, but are pieces of interactive art. Perfect for the fashionista who appreciates art, any item from Kantrtantzou’s collection will not disappoint.

Drive a Wedge
Sometimes driving a wedge between two can be a good thing. Example – Cold whiskey is good. Watered down whiskey is not. Drive a wedge between the two so that never again shall they meet. How, you ask? With the Whiskey Wedge.  You simply pour water into the included double old fashioned glass, insert the mold, and freeze. Once frozen, add in your favorite whiskey. The ice’s wedge shape melts far more slowly than a typical cube thanks to the limited surface area in contact with the drink, meaning your whiskey gets nice and chilled but keeps its integrity to the last drop. Plus it creates a totally cool presentation!

Pucker Up
Markus Lupfer’s fun approach to design is a hit with those in the know, and collaborations with Cacharel and Mulberry have secured his reputation as the go-to for wearable statement knitwear. Channel the brand’s playful sense of glamour in sequined sweaters and slogan tees. In case you haven’t noticed from our brand graphics, we love to seal all great works with a kiss which makes this chic Smacker  T one of my faves.

Turn Back Time
The fashion-forward Museum Wrap Watch was inspired by one of the label’s own pieces. The company was inspired by its own previous creation after recently buying back one of their vintage timepieces once owned by a Hollywood legend, Elizabeth Taylor. And  bit of interesting trivia, the company bought back the late actressess 1960 model in an estate sell for $15,000.  This ‘re-release” of sorts is fashioned in polished solid stainless steel, features a retro chic double-wrap hinged bangle with a channeled texture, and would be a striking statement piece to any ensemble.

Secret Service Agent
So much more than a pen, please pardon my candidness, but this is one badass writing utensil. Uzi has managed to turn a mere pen into a life-saving tool. It will write upside or under water, and that’s only the first of its features. The crown also doubles as a glass breaker (you know should you ever get trapped in your vehicle). And if things get really bad, you can rely on the hidden handcuff key inside the top of this pen. Oh, and if you gift this to a friend who lives to tell the tale of using all the features, pen the story because both of you just may find that this pen also has the power to make you a lot of money.

For the connoisseur of brew, one of the most iconic beer brands around has something special up its sleeve this fall. Guinness just released, 1759, a limited edition amber ale based on a 200-year-old recipe using a blend of traditional beer malt and peated whisky malt, along with Guinness yeast giving this small batch brew’s rich taste distinctive notes of caramel and warming butterscotch. The collection is named for the year that Arthur Guinness signed the lease for St. James’ Gate in Dublin – in case you were curious. For thousands of years people have used meditation to move beyond the mind’s stress-inducing thoughts and emotional upsets  into the peace and clarity of present moment awareness. The variety of meditation techniques, traditions, and technologies is nearly infinite, but the essence of meditation is singular: the cultivation of mindful awareness and expanded consciousness.

It is accurate to say that the purpose of meditation depends on the individual. However, it is also true that anyone who meditates regularly receives profound benefits on all levels of well-being – physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Give the gift of peace to a loved one through these guided meditations. We have to agree, there’s no place the Om.

Much Ado about May posted in: Inspiration, Society News, Uncategorized

April Showers Bloom many reasons to celebrate in May. I don’t know about you, but with the frigid, frozen days of winter behind us (hopefully) it’s time to bask in days of sunshine and clear skies! Some of the recognition holidays in May are an entire month long, offering much opportunity to celebrate.

hello may

Two relationship-centered May holidays are Date Your Mate Month and National Recommitment Month.  Marriage and dating relationships thrive when properly cared for and fostered. One of the best things we can do to nurture our love relationship is to play together. Here’s a great article about the importance of time spent dating your mate. And because these relationships are an important part of our well-being, it’s natural that our recommitment to our health and well-being include goals – as a couple but also as individuals. Check out this post for more on recommitment to your goals. Take time to figure out what you want as a couple and what you need as an individual.

may 2nd blog post image

Since the 80s, May has also been recognized as National Photography Month, so break out the camera – capture moments of play and document times spent focusing on recommitment to your goals. It’s often said that a picture is worth a thousand words. A national survey revealed that photography is one of our most powerful connections to our shared memories, emotions and self-expression. The findings reported that 83% of people use photos to connect with past memories. These visual memories are great reminders of those things that truly make our souls happy… the things that nourish our spirit, mind and body, and the people whose love and support encourage us to continue on and empower us to be all that we can be – to truly thrive in this life! k majakey cool selfie shot

And May is just getting your warmed up with reasons to celebrate. Several foods are also honored in May. It’s National Barbecue Month, National Hamburger Month, National Salad Month, and National Candy Month. And these month long celebrations are only a start, there are many other days of celebration in May ranging from long recognized days of honor to more recent and light-hearted days of fun recognition. Mother’s Day, Derby Day, Cinco de Mayo, National Macaroon Day and Memorial Day to name a few.  There’s a party excuse for most every day.

Don’t worry about keeping it all straight – connect with us on facebook or with me on Twitter, to be sure you’re in the know when it comes to excuses to party and reason to celebrate!

Need a little inspiration of ways to celebrate and what to photograph this month? Here’s a few to get you thinking:

  • Enjoy a picnic in the park with your sweetheart
  • Take a bike ride
  • Plan a play date at home – put on your favorite album or playlist, open a bottle of wine, prepare a meal together – but before dessert, take a spin to “your song” in the living room.
  • No special someone to speak of? Take a look in the mirror – see that special person staring back at you? Give them a little love and attention. Take a quiet walk or hike with your camera and/or journal. Spend time refocusing on what it is that you really want or need – then go for it!
  • Look for special foodie events, festivals and capture a little food porn.
  • Submit images for a photography exhibit
  • Host a cooking contest or photography exhibition of your own
  • Dust of your camera and take a photo a day for the entire month

Whatever you do, make time for play with your special love, and allow yourself to live fully in these moments (deadlines, work and home repairs will be there tomorrow)! What other ideas do you have for celebrating this this bloomingly beautiful spring month?

Wishing you an inspiring day and entire Month of May!

Pay It Forward posted in: Inspiration, Society News, Uncategorized

Today is Pay it Forward Day. While the day of recognition focuses on raising awareness of the concept of selfless giving for just one day a year, everyday can be Pay it Forward Day by being aware of the needs of others around us in the world and considering how our talents, resources and heart may be a blessing to others. Even the simplest considerations and acts of kindness can help anyone feel a little better. Always keep in mind that even the smallest gesture could make someone’s day. Here are a few ways ideas of how you can pay it forward:

Buy someone’s latte. At your local coffee shop, pay for someone else’s cup of coffee when you buy your own.

Send a Card. Write notes of appreciation to friends, family members, coworkers or neighbors, telling them why they are important to you.

 pink thank you card

Help out at home. Look around your own home to see what needs to be done – do an extra chore or two. It WILL be appreciated – guaranteed!  And it may make such a differnece so someone you love, you may be encouraged to make it a habit.

Give the gift of books. Have books you’re no longer reading? Donate them to a library, or sell them to a used bookstore and donate the cash to an organization that sponsors reading programs.

Feed someone. When at lunch, buy an extra meal for a homeless person. This is not only kind, it’s also healthier and more constructive than just giving them money.

Share a sweet treat. Buy some cookies at your favorite bakery and ask the clerk to leave them out for other customers to enjoy.

Pay someone’s way. In line to pay for a toll or train ticket? Pay for the person behind you, too.

Make a Donation. Donate usable clothing and health & personal care products to a local shelter or charity.  Someone else will really appreciate the items you can’t use, and your donation will support vital community programs.

Be a voice for those without a voice. Contact your local animal shelter or rescue organization to find out which supplies they need most, and then donate them.

Help someone in need. Run an errand for someone, keep the kids for a friend, or visit an elderly neighbor who isn’t able to get out.

Share your favorite things. Buy two of something and give one away. If you love it, chances are someone else will, too.

Volunteer. Contact a local hospital or community organization to see how you can volunteer your services.

 Epsilon Community Involvement

Hold the door. Be aware of those coming through the door behind you. Look for people who are carrying things and may need extra help.

Let someone go first in line. When you’re in line at the grocery store with a full cart, allow someone with just a few items to go ahead of you.

Save a life. Donate blood, can’t be manufactured; it has to be donated – a true gift.

Be a courteous driver. Make the highway safer, and reduce your stress level, by letting other drivers merge in front of you.

Care for those who are sick. Deliver a meal and an easy read or movie to a sick friend or neighbor to enjoy while they recuperate.

Go Global. Make a contribution to a global charitable organization or reach out by email or phone to learn how else you may become involved in a worthy world-wide mission.

Your generosity will make someone’s day a little better. What other ideas so you have to add to the list?

And by the way, if you like and agree with what you see, share it with a friend!

Celebrate World Kindness Day 2013! posted in: Etiquette, Events, Holidays, Society News

Wednesday, November 13th is World Kindness Day!

World Kindness Day offers an opportunity to highlight goodwill in our world. It’s a day that brings people from all walks of life together for a common goal – to show kindness to others.

Celebrate World Kindness Day 2013

While an excuse is never needed to be kind, World Kindness Day exists as a reminder encouraging us to be courteous to others, to lend someone a helping hand, to show compassion or do something to brighten someone’s day. At Tanja & Co, we’ve created an online party, and would love to have you join us in celebrating World Kindness Day this year! By joining together we can see how as individuals focusing on the common thread of  kindness which binds us as one people regardless of race, religion, gender, politics or zip code,  we can effect and propel positive change in the world around us.

Another wonderful thing about World Kindness Day is that it can be celebrated anywhere and in so many different ways. Participation doesn’t have to be costly (be it time or money) to mean more than you may ever know to the recipient. You can do something as simple as invite a single friend to join you for a family dinner, set out and return an elderly neighbors garbage cans, leave a family in your community an anonymous a gift card for a ‘Nite at the Movies’. For more ideas for inspiration keep checking ourCelebrate World Kindness Day event page, or turn back to our recent National Courtesy Month blog post to get you thinking, and we would love to hear your suggestions on ways to spread kindness on this day.

world kindess day celebration ideas

If you’re wondering how World Kindness Day got its official start? It was introduced in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement which is comprised of about 20 different organizations across the globe.

The day is observed in many countries, including the USA, Canada, Japan, the UK, Australia, The United Arab Emirates Italy and India to name a few. Schools are also beginning to formally observe and participate and some also work with awesome kindness outreach programs The Be Kind Project and Life Vest Inside here the USA. If you have interest for schools in your area to join the movement, contact us at support@classroom-connection.org for more information.

So,  join us to celebrate. Be sure to check back here and on our facebook event page often for additional ideas.

Oh, by the way, share this post with your friends to invite them to join the movement and spread kindness!

It’s National Camera Day! posted in: Events, Society News

Today is National Camera Day!

Say "Cheese!"

Point & shoot. Repeat……repeatedly. Ever find yourself snap, snap, snapping away on the shutter in hopes to get the “perfect angle or expression”? The perfect picture to capture the moment – maybe it’s the candid shot of a reunion with family and friends, a fun evening out with friends, documenting a job well done, your weetot or furbaby simply being adorable (aren’t they always?), proof of a conquered fear, or making record of a milestone event. For all of the above, I’m thankful for camera that provides a way for us to capture life’s many special moments and help those moments to live on for years to come.

We love photos! In our business, they are paramount in our business to showcase work we’ve done, illustrate the vision for an event theme or design concept, document special works and people we have the good fortune to know and work with. In our personal lives we cherish these captured memories of special moments and milestone shared with family and friends.

(Tanja has shared a few personal moments us today – cooking with Dad, a summer family reunion, fun times with friends, a candid shot taken by Jen O’Sullivan of Tanja at work on her craft, her sweet pea – Jazz, the day her brother Indy graduated as a Marine in the U.S. military and a few recent event shots)

So get out there and take some pictures! We encourage you to grab a camera, whether it be a fancy schmancy DSLR or your cell phone and take a picture.

Tanja is celebrating the day enjoying a family gathering her Mom & Q are hosting  in honor our her youngest brother Indiana. The flash will definitely be going off at this event. We invite you to share what inspired you to take a pic today and post it on our fb page or leave below in a comment!

National Compliment Day posted in: Etiquette, Society News, Uncategorized

Hi Friends! I’m on the road (well actually  in the air) on my way to an industry conference (stay tuned for news on the latest in the world of events). Do you know that today is National  Compliment Day?! Well, it is, which brings a few thoughts to my heart that I would like to share.

In general, most of us like to receive compliments – they make us feel encouraged, reassured, confident,  and joyful.  It ‘s all too easy to get caught up in ourselves–our schedule, our email, our facebook page, our text messages, etc . .,that we  lose sight of how easy and  meaningful it is to share the wonderful things we think of others and their works. I truly believe that giving sincere compliments about internal characteristics is a great way to strengthen our families, friendships, groups and our communities.

I ran across something one day which I found quite clever which I would like to share with you. Being that today is a national day of recognition, I feel it appropriate to ask you to join me (if you are so inclined)  in “Mission A-Compliment,” an “exercise” if you will, designed to spread a little love and give our families, friends and colleagues self-image a boost. It’s simple:

Step 1: Pause for a moment to take notice of what others are doing well and let them know how you feel.

I was taught to say what you mean and mean what you say….and whole-heartedly  believe this to be of great importance. I may give a lot of compliments, but I speak what I feel. If I don’t truthfully feel/think it – I won’t extend it. Be sincere (and don’t allow yourself t feel threatened by what you find to be complimentary in another). Which brings me to another subject that has been on my mind (this could be a whole post in itself…)  – how some women regard and treat other women. I so often see and have personally experienced women relating to other women as being in “competition” with them rather than befriending them and celebrating one another. Each of us are unique, with various gifts and qualities – why not learn and grow from the best in each person we know and lift up one another?

When someone excels at something, or boldly steps out to sing a solo, create art, start a business  or blog, etc. ,  genuine, kind compliments and positive feedback can mean the world to them. I read recently that when our society doesn’t place value on individual talents and accomplishments that members of the society begin to conform to what the mainstream and popular opinion says we “should” be rather than to continue to develop one’s true authentic self.

We have the power to make someone else’s day, and there are lots of people out there doing fabulous work.  I bet they’d like to feel appreciated, so I encourage you to take your thoughts a step further and share a kind word with the persons who’s work or traits you admire.  There is  power in complimenting on things that really matter, for example, “I appreciate how you are always so happy.”  or “You have such a great way of making others feel comfortable around you.”  or “You are so good at prioritizing your life.  I can see that you put your family at the top of your list. I admire you and aspire to live my life in the same way.” This kind of complimenting emphasizes that the point isn’t to “fit in” or “be like everyone else.”  The point is to emphasize your unique qualities.  Our friends need this.  Our family needs this. We need this. A simple email, a handwritten note, or thoughtful words spoken to someone directly in their eyes truly takes little effort or time, but the impact and ripple-effect is substantial.

Because I run a blog and social media pages for business, I also read a lot of other people’s pages, and I comment as often as possible. The more we comment and compliment others on –innovation, discipline, cheerfulness, inner strength, kindness, etc., the more we encourage others to develop those traits.

In closing I would love to know What kinds of compliments you think are the best to receive? I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Now I’m off to give someone a compliment!

Wishing you all a lovely day!

A Year in the Life – 2011 posted in: Events, Society News, Weddings

As the year comes to a close, it is a time to take time to look back at all the projects we have been involved with over the past year. I am thankful for the wonderful clients I have had the opportunity to work with and help to mark milestone events or reach their event objective. If you have ever wondered how an event planner spends their time, here’s a peek into some of the events we produced and projects we were involved with in 2011.

  • Produced a golf tournament for 380 guests….one day tournament on three separate courses
  • Designed a graduation celebration to honor a very accomplished young lady and valedictorian of her class for over 100 guests
  • Coordinated transportation, accommodations and meeting space for corporate strategic session
  • Designed and planned a variety of weddings ranging from intimate gatherings in historic locations to grand affairs with hundreds of guests for some of the most wonderful couples
  • Served as keynote presenter on topic of etiquette
  • Coordinated a Tea for 80 guests
  • Coordinated travel, accommodations and excursions for weekend getaways to Las Vegas and stays at beautiful resorts such as The Greenbrier
  • Served as adjunct faculty at a University, teaching  two hospitality courses to culinary students

By designing decor and layout, managing logistics and handling event to-do lists of people who already have a full schedule, we are able to return to our clients the gift of time and give them confidence in knowing that their event will be a successful and outstanding one. We are passionate about the special events and hospitality industry, and look forward to being of service to our clients both current and new in the coming year!

Happy New Year!
