74th Annual Golden Globes, Sit and Sip in Style posted in: Entertainment, Events, Food and Beverage, How Tos, Recipes

Hollywood award season kicks off this Sunday with the 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards airs this Sunday, January 8th on NBC at 8PM EST/5PM PST. This year’s host is Jimmy Fallon, so even if you’re not typically into awards shows, Fallon just might make you a believer with his sharp wit, boyish charm and spot-on impressions. And if you are into awards shows, AND all of the fashion pomp and circumstance that goes along with them…then you can get your eye candy fix by tuning into E! News at 6PM EST/3PM PST for the red offering up close views of your favorite stars’ attire and accessories.

Whether you plan to enjoy the evening with your BFFs all dolled to the nines, stay in and channel Zsa Zsa in a silk robe, heeled Marabou slip-on and favorite chandelier earrings, or opt for low-key lounge-out in your comfiest althleisure wear, you can get festive by preparing a few easy appetizers to serve with this year’s official Golden Globes cocktail.

moet-diamond-cocktail

This year’s signature drink, “The Moët Diamond”, was created by model and Actress, Olivia Culpo. Sit back and sip in style with this smooth creation:

The Moët Diamond

Ingredients:
3 ounces Moët Imperial Brut Champagne
½ ounce orange liqueur
2 dashes cherry bitters
1 rock candy stick

Preparation:
Pour orange liqueur into champagne flute and add dash of cherry bitters. Gently pour chilled champagne. Garnish with rock candy coated swizzle stick.

If you’re feeling really enthusiastic, you can prepare your own version of the official Golden Globes menu created by Chef Alberico Nunziata that over a thousand of the biggest names in Hollywood will enjoy.

As for me, I’ve perused the offerings for inspiration for my own laid-back offering of easy eats. I plan to enjoy a nice salad and
Moët Diamonds paired with cream puffs.

Cheers!

Cinco de de Mayo meet Rosa Picante, The Margarita of the Year posted in: Food and Beverage

I come up for air for the first time since January and with wide-eye surprise say, “¡Hola Mayo!”

Needless then to say that it’s been steady nose to the grindstone for me all year. I’m not complaining, but I will take the holiday as reason enough to take a beat and spice things up with a delicious cocktail.

Cinco de Mayo 2016 Rosa Picante Margarita of the Year

And when I say cocktail on Cinco de Mayo, I mean Margarita….on this date is there realllly any other?  What I have in mind to imbibe is not your average everyday ‘rita. I shall celebrate Cinco de Mayo with the Rosa Picante Margarita – which by the way, holds the 2016 title of Margarita of the Year (yes, there truly is such a title).

The Rosa Picante Margarita was presented by Jordan Corney of San Antonio. The bartender was quoted saying, “Jalapeño margaritas are everywhere. I was looking for a way to take that and dress it up a little.”  – and that he certainly did. This spicy yet subtle cocktail has hints of rosewater for a splash of sophistication. And the presentation is gorgeous – behold the beautiful snap below from Rebecca of Sugar and Soul.

Here’s what you’ll need and the method to the beautiful madness:

Ingredients:

2 oz Patrón Silver

.5 oz Patrón Citrónge Lime

1 oz Fresh Lime Juice

.5 oz Ginger Syrup

+  Barspoon of Jalapeño Oil

+  Dash of rosewater

+ Rose petal sea salt

+Rose Petal and Jalapeño slice, optoinal

Method:

Combine tequilas, lime juice, ginger syrup and jalapeño oil in a cocktail shaker and shake with ice to chill.

Strain into a chilled cocktail coupe that has been half-rimmed with rose sea salt, and top with a dash of rose water. Garnish with a rose petal and/or jalapeño slice, if available.

Enjoy solo or serve this beautiful and daring drink up for your friends.

Cheers!

Toast to the Creator of American’s Original Mocktail posted in: Food and Beverage

Shirley Temple, arguably the most famous child star of all time. She quite remarkably began her film career at the ripe age of three and by the tender age of six she had received a miniature Academy Award and her tiny left and and footprints were cemented in the walk at the iconic Grauman’s Chinese Theater. Temple lifted the spirits of millions with her sunny disposition. Her cheerful, optimistic and innocence could bring joy to even the toughest of characters and love to all those who would welcome it in.

From this this pint-sized sweetheart, we also have our first mocktail. This drink is named for the best known, most innocent looking child star in history, and of course, contains no alcohol. The Shirley Temple is one of the most popular drinks of all time. A classic that most everyone both young and old know well.

Shirley Temple America's Favorite Little Sweetheart

America’s original mocktail requires only a few simple ingredients – ginger ale, a second favorite clear soft drink and grenadine. The resulting combination is one of the most innocently fantastic and refreshing  drink you will ever have.

This drink is super simple to make and can be ordered for yourself or the little ones at most any restaurant.

Ingredients: shirley temple mocktail

  2. Add a dash of grenadine
  3. Stir
  4. Garnish with a cherry
  5. Serve with your best award-winning Shirley Temple smile

Prep Time: 3 minutes
Total Time: 3 minutes

This One Takes the Cake! posted in: Events, Food and Beverage, Inspiration, Weddings

Have you seen this confectionery masterpiece? It is quite the showstopper!

This masterpiece is actress Kaley Cuoco’s upside down wedding cake that she and her new hubby, Ryan Sweeting served at their recent wedding reception. The sparkling sugar showpiece was created by Kimberly Bailey of the Butter End Cakery and was installed installed with the help of production pros at RrivreWorks. In a word – STUNNING!!!

Chandelier Upside Down Wedding Cake

But this gravity-defying dessert  wasn’t simply some gorgeous to look at it – it was literally good enough to eat! The rhinestone adorned cake which boasted a grand 27-inch bottom layer (or top depending on which end you consider is up) consisted of two-flavors —almond with toasted almond cream cheese buttercream frosting and chocolate almond cherry with cherry cream cheese buttercream frosting—sounds as good as it looks!

As you can imagine, the display for this creation required a little…OK, a lot more than a pretty cake stand. Pulling off this presentation required a few trips to Home Depot, custom rigging, several sandbags and a lot of creativity and can-do determination! A gorgeous example of the benefits of having pros at the helm of your event!

We think this daring display takes the cake! What do you think? Love it or leave it? Share your thoughts below in a comment.

Pear-Reisling Compote) posted in: Food and Beverage

If you’re hosting guests this holiday season, here’s a great recipe to sweeten up your hors d’oeuvres display. This simple recipe for pear compote is delicious and makes a nice, unexpected pairing with a simple assortment of cheeses. A good cheese presentation is a low maintenance appetizer that is always a crowd pleaser. This compote is easy to make, and will  be a wonderful addition to your presentation. Serve it with a fresh baguette or assortment of crostini.

Check out our video here: Tanja Lynn shares a great pear-reisling compote recipe

Recipe:

Ingredients:

3-4 medium pears, peeled and cut into small chunks

3 T Reisling (I often substitute in Cupcake’s Angel Food wine)

2 t sugar

1 cinnamon stick

Dash of freshly grated nutmeg

Directions:

  1. Combine diced pear, wine, sugar and cinnamon stick in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer, reduce heat and continue to simmer, stirring occasionally – until most of the liquid has evaporated and the pears are tender – about 10-12 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in nutmeg (or you can sprinkle it over the top as more of a garnish if preferred).
  3. Serve.

Yields: 1 1/2 – 2 cups

This recipe can be made in advance, simply cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Bon apetit!

Couture Pops have become a craze and they’re sweeping the celebrity world. Everyone from Fergie to Flo Rida can be seen with one of these couture candies. A few celebs such as Ms. Spears even have their own line.

These chichi candies  are available in a array of colors and designs, so you can select the perfect one to suit your style. A few personal faves are black onyx, champagne and the disco stick to set-off my strawberry and pina colada pops.
