The Official Color of 2013 is an Enchanting Empress- Are you Green with Envy? posted in: Entertainment, Events, Fashion, Holiday Decorating, Trends, Uncategorized

The 2013 Color of the Year is Emerald (PANTONE 17-5641), a lush, lively, radiant green!  We love this luxurious and sophisticated color!

Emerald - 2013 Official Pantone Color of the Year

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®, has this to say about Emerald: “Green is the most abundant hue in nature – the human eye sees more green than any other color in the spectrum.  As it has throughout history, multifaceted Emerald continues to sparkle and fascinate. Symbolically, Emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world. This powerful and universally appealing tone translates easily to both fashion and home interiors.”  We couldn’t agree more emerald is an enchanting empress – holding high rank, commanding adoration and attention. Timeless and with aplomb, she radiates good energy and success. She is heralded as haute, adored by the masses, secretly making other colors green with envy of her royal beauty. Expect to see lots of this captivating color in event decor as well as in fashion, beauty, and home interior design in the coming year!

Emerald pairs beautifully with sunny yellow, bright orange, and other shades of green. The key to creating a palette that plays well together is – proper proportion.  Pink and green have a longtime relationship and navy and green are an all-time favorite as favored color combinations. When teamed with a soft muted tone such a grayed jade, the result is elegant, easy sophistication. Beiges, browns, grays and other neutrals work perfectly as an anchor with emerald in color palettes.

What’s great about Emerald is that it is a wonderful color choice for women’s formal and everyday wear, and especially accessories!  For men, Emerald also makes a strong statement in sportswear and ties!  It’s balanced and sophisticated and will make a great statement in spring, sumer, fall and winter!

Put this color on your radar. In coming weeks, we will post beautiful color stories for events using this haute hue.

To awaken and arouse your senses, we’ve put together a Pinterest board full of this beautiful Emerald hue to inspire you in 2013!  Take a look at our Emerald Envy.  Is this a color you will embrace in 2013?  Let us know in a comment below!

Have a colorful day!

Happy National Brownie Day! posted in: Entertainment, Food and Beverage

‘Tis the season for family get together’s, office holiday parties and Christmas festivities with friends!  If you are looking for a great holiday treat to make any party merry and bright, you are in the right place – we have listed 3 brownie recipe’s from three of the most well known chef’s below!  You and your party guests will fall in love with these brownies!

Paula Deen’s Decadent Brownies

Ingredients
  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, sifted

Frosting:

  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup pasteurized egg substitute (recommended: Egg Beaters)
  • 1 teaspoon vanialla extract
  • 1 (1-pound) box confectioners’ sugar, sifted
  • 4 cups mini marshmallows
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 13 by 9-inch baking pan.
Melt the chocolate and butter in a 2-quart bowl in the microwave on high for 3 minutes, stirring every 20 to 30 seconds until the chocolate is completely melted. Add the eggs, sugar, and vanilla and mix well with a spatula. Add the flour and stir to combine. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan.

Bake for 25 minutes.  While the brownies are baking, make the frosting. Melt the chocolate and butter in a medium bowl in the microwave on high for 3 minutes stirring every 20 to 30 seconds until the chocolate is completely melted. Add the egg substitute, vanilla, and sugar and stir with a spoon until smooth. Stir in the marshmallows; they will soften but not melt completely. Spread the frosting over the warm brownies. The frosting will set up when the brownies are completely cooled. When cool, cut into 1 1/2-inch squares and store in the refrigerator in a plastic container with a snap-on lid.

Julia Childs’ Brownies

Ingredients:
1 1/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
8 ounces unsalted butter
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped
2 ounces bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
4 large eggs
Center a rack in the oven and preheat the oven to 350°. Sift the flour and salt together and set aside.  Melt the butter and chocolate together in a medium saucepan over low heat, stirring frequently and keeping a watchful eye on the pot to make certain the chocolate doesn?t scorch (Alternatively, you can melt the ingredients in the top of a double boiler over, not touching, simmering water.) Add 1 cup of the sugar to the mixture and stir for half a minute, then remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla. Pour the mixture into a large bowl.

Put the remaining 1 cup sugar and the eggs into a bowl and mix or whisk by hand just to combine. Little by little, pour half of the sugar and eggs into the chocolate mixture, stirring gently but constantly with a rubber spatula so that the eggs don?t set from the heat. Fit the whisk attachment to the mixer and whip the remaining sugar and eggs until they are thick, pale, and doubled in volume, about 3 minutes. Using the rubber spatula, delicately fold the whipped eggs into the chocolate mixture.  When the eggs are almost completely incorporated, gently fold in the dry ingredients. Pour and scrape the batter in to an unbuttered 9-inch square pan.  Bake the brownies for 25-28 minutes, during which time they will rise a little and the top will turn dark and dry.  Cut into the center at about the 23-minute mark to see how the brownies are progressing.

Rachael Ray’s Brownies

Ingredients:

  • 4 squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Directions
Pre-heat the oven to 350°F.  Line a 9-inch x 9-inch pan with foil. Grease the foil with butter.
Melt the chocolate and butter and stir until all the chocolate is melted and the mixture is a uniform consistency (you can use a double boiler, but I just put a small bowl in the microwave and stir and check every minute or so to make sure it doesn’t burn). In a separate medium size bowl, beat the egg and sugar until it’s a light yellow color and creamy. Add the chocolate mixture and stir. Add the vanilla, flour and salt, mix until combined and pour into the pan.

Bake at the 350°F for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick just comes out clean. I start checking at 18 minutes – do not overcook.  You can jazz the brownies up with a dusting of confectioner’s sugar if you’d like, but they are equally delicious straight up.

We’d love to know which brownie recipe looks/sounds most delicious to you!  Leave us a comment below!  And if you have a brownie recipe you want to share with us, we’d love that too!
