What a Treasure posted in: Entertaining Essentials, Events, Fashion, Great Products, Uncategorized

In one of my quests to feed my entertaining essentials fetish, I discovered these bright, cheery, and oh so fashionable napkin rings, and was immediately struck by the vivid color and daring designs. These funky colorful pieces boast illustrations that are more like fabric patterns, and they dress up a table beautifully. The bold color combined with textural interplay of translucency and opaqueness – nearly made me squeal with delight! “What wonderful designs!” You can choose from nakpin rings and holders, to plates and servings trays. Society, these pieces are perfect for entertaining guests at your next special event or holiday fete!

The Collection I am so excited about is lalo treasures. The artist and designer behind the brand is Lalo Orna. She is one of Israel’s most up and coming designers. The pieces are designed in Israel and handmade in Bulgaria. Her artistic philosophy, `I want my colorful creations to smile at you and make you feel good’` and they do!

These beautiful designs have worldwide appeal, and as proof, they have made their way to the states, turning up in online shops and brick and mortar boutiques  – they’ve been spied everywhere from Boston to Miami! Society, you heard it here, you WILL be seeing more of these designs and hear more about Lalo Orna as her international reputation grows.

Are you thinking that these napkin rings would go perfectly with one of your outfits? Tempted to wear the napkin rings out on the town as accessories – a la Lady Gaga?! Me too!   But we don’t have to because Orna also designs a full collection of   jewelry, hair accessories and more!

Top Trends for Fall Fashion 2010 posted in: Fashion, Society News, Uncategorized

The 2010 fall fashion season is all about sensual, seemingly effortless sophistication with cool new twists and a funky edge. To be fashion forward this fall it’s all about combining minimalist style with texture and embellishments. Society, I give you the top trends, hot color topics and what’s now in accessories for fall.

Photos provided courtesy of the designers

The ten top emerging trends:

1. Minimalist
Minimalist fashion is experiencing a re-emergence, and I personally LOVE it! In this year’s fall fashions, we are seeing a departure from the loud, mixed patterns of spring, and moving in a much more sophisticated direction. Right now it’s all about the experience of different textures.

2. Velvet
Word on the street runway says velvet is the ‘it fabric’ for fall 2010. You will see beautifully deep colored pieces (such as black, emerald and midnight blue)From tops peeking out from under to dresses, designers love velvet this season as the texture to add a romantic yet edgy vibe.

3. Bold Embellishments
No doubt this trend will be one of the marks for fall fashion 2010. From fur and feathers to jewels and metallic accents, detailed embellishments crowned fashion essentials all over the runways.

4. Draping
Draping is a creative way to create a masterpiece from a simple fabric, and it is everywhere in fall fashion. It may prove itself to be the season’s greatest emerging trend.  Look for basic fabrics, typically solid, one color pieces sewn in multiple, flowing layers.

5. Graphics
Graphic garments for fall are all about striking colors sewn to make the eye dance a certain way. Look for colors that contrast nicely and combine neutrals and bolds.

6. Sheer
The incorporation of the trend this season is elegant, not overdone, sophisticated, not fairytale. Sheer tops (which work great with the layering trend by the way) to dresses with sheer sleeves or complete barely there overlays graced fall runways , and they are beautiful!

7. Military
Crop jackets with military embellishments to camo patterned boots and handbags (yes seriously, see Prada’s fall line), many designers salute this trend in their fall fashions.

8. Suits
Stuffy, boxy, matronly suits are out. This season’s look offers a new take on business wear. They’re surprising, revealing, and dominating. Shorts suits, tailored jackets with skinny pants, and relaxed, flowing, bohemian chic styles – the look is about professional, sexy, on-the-go style.

9. Layered Look
From a casual lounge day or a shopping with friends to the office, leggings paired with a loose long flowing blouse, tunic, or tank and sleek sophisticated cardigan are still very much in fashion.

10. Gemstone Jewelry
Simple, stunning gemstones always take a style up a notch. One piece of gemstone jewelry can be all it takes to spice up an outfit and complete a look. This trend works with everything from jeans and a fitted shirt to your favorite LBD.

Color trends
Neutrals are BIG this season – black is back and it undeniably reigns supreme. However, grey, camel and white are also popular. Metallics in silver gold and bronze shimmer as accents and totally shine in the spotlight. Red showed up as the “pop” color in the most fashion shows, but a few designers (Oscar de la Renta, Tommy Hilfiger and LaCoste) made more use of the color wheel in their collections. And though styles varied considerably, one thing did not, among other colors featured – purple, blue and emerald – all were gemstone hues.

Hot accessories
As for accessories – belt it out! Belt your pants, dresses, sweaters, coats, whatever, but do not leave the house without a belt – the single most consistent theme I noticed throughout all of the fall lines. To carry your essentials in style, this season’s “it bag” is structured – choose a satchel or bowler in a neutral such as black or camel or go bold with bright red.
For fall there are some beautiful pumps, but it’s truly all about the boot. Ankle high to thigh-high, rider to platform heel, and buckles, buckles, buckles. Find the pair that makes yoru hear tsing  – and rock ’em all season long!

With all of the beautiful fall collections you cannot possibly go wrong with fashion, and the gret thing about this seaon’s styles is that so many are timeless which means you can get a lot of mileage from these fashions.

Society, we want to hear from you. What do think of the new fall fashions?

Beat the Heat posted in: Events, Great Products, Uncategorized, Weddings

The splendor of blue skies, gorgeous landscapes and bright sun-shiny days make outdoor weddings oh so desirable. But Mother Nature can be unpredictable and you may find yourself getting married in sweltering heat. Make an impression on your guests with your thoughtfulness and attention to detail.

Give your big day a mark of distinction with your own private label bottled water. Many companies offer designer wedding labels to choose from that you may personalize with your wedding name and date or special message. The mini bottles of refreshment are a very easy add for your outdoor event, as they come assembled and ready to go. Simply chill and serve. Place a station next to the guest registration table and the attendant and or ushers can offer the beverage to guests upon their arrival to be seated. Another great idea is to offer butlered lemonade and water service prior to your ceremony. Position wait staff in the back of the ceremony space between guest registration and the back of the aisle.

And when it comes to sunny summer weddings, EVERYONE is a fan of the “fan”. They make pretty yet practical favors and will keep your guests cool when the temps are high. Fans are a great option because they are available in many shapes, sizes, materials (paper, buri, sandalwood, even silk) and in a whole spectrum of eye-catching colors, so you are sure to find one that perfectly suits your wedding day style. Select a delicate silk folding fan, or be practical and eco-chic and select a paper fan that can double as a wedding program!

Another way to help protect your guests from the heat of the sun is to provide a little shade with a charming parasol. The pretty protectors are available in an array of beautiful colors, and make a fun and not so overdone favor for your guests. Present them in a garden pail or large basket for a garden wedding or place one on each chair at the ceremony.

By incorporating one or all of these ideas for your outdoor wedding, you will help your guests “beat the heat” in style (And BONUS! you will also give the photographer props for some awesome and fun photos)!

Stay cool Society!

The Greenbrier Classic posted in: Entertainment, Events, Society News

Last week thousands descended upon southern WV for the inaugural Greenbrier Classic on the Old White Course at The Greenbrier Resort. The event had a great turnout with crowd attendance reported at just shy of 10,000 on Monday (first day) and increased day by day with Sunday (final day) realizing over 41,000 guests. Young and old, golf novice to aficionado, all enjoyed watching the tournament action, concert performances and being a part of yet another historical Greenbrier event.

I had the privilege to experience this event up close and personal, as both a spectator and as part of the Greenbrier team (image to the left is of yours truly standing in front of the bridge on No. 18). As an event planner and also by being married to a golf nut, I have been exposed to my fair share of golf tournaments, news, and stats, but THIS, this was a whole new experience – to have the opportunity to see and understand the workings and flow of tournament of this magnitude live and in real time as opposed to a television broadcast –  Phenomenal!
Two personal highlights:
From a spectator’s perspective, watching a pro hit a tee shot over 300 yards, and once nearly 400!– QUITE impressive to say the least.
The event planner in me was totally into observing and participating in the overall traffic flow and crowd control – especially how the pros and caddies, spectators and media are moved about the course during play which you simply cannot appreciate from TV land.

In addition to the featured tournament, guests also had the opportunity to enjoy practice rounds,
the Pro-Am, Youth Day, as well as an evening concert concert series for entertainment.  Reba McEntire christened the new amphitheater on Wednesday night with a powerful performance (surprise guest Melissa Peterman aka: Barbara Jean from the TV show Reba also made a guest appearance) . Rascal Flatts totally rocked the place Thursday night – honestly the strongest bass I have experienced at any concert  -EVER. Each bass beat kicked the back of my seat the entire show. Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley gave the finale concerts on Saturday evening and both received rave reviews. Also Mr. Smokey Robinson performed at the Pairings Party, a private event hosted at the resort on Tuesday evening.

Though I admit I was on the go nearly non-stop, barely slept an average of 4 hours a night the entire week, and by Sunday was one whipped puppy  – never mind, it was a blast!  The event was top notch, I had a wonderful time reconnecting with old friends and making new ones during my shifts, and it is always nice to take in the beauty of the Greenbrier.

So Society, golfer or not, I recommend you plan to attend next year’s event!
